One Post Per Day

I made a blog decision over the weekend. I've decided to boost my weekly post count up to five. That's right, I'm attempting to write something every single day of the work week. Well, at least for some weeks, anyway.

To devise said plan, I've come up with a list of topics that I think are, at the very least, marginally interesting or useful to people other than just me. We'll seBloge how this new organization of ideas works! Hope you enjoy.

Mom Mission Mondays

We've all had our moments in motherhood where we just want to pull our hair out because there are too many things going on at once. We're juggling one baby in our arms who refuses to be let down and another toddler crying at our feet to be carried. Meanwhile, there's a sink full of dishes, an Inbox with too many emails and a casserole burning in the oven. Please tell me you know the moment I'm talking about! And yet, it seems no matter how many things we get done in one day, there's always more we could be doing. In my Mom Mission Monday posts, I'm going to focus on things that moms can do to make life easier, happier, more efficient, etc. If you get around to trying it out, great! If you have some Mom Mission ideas of your own that you want to share, even better! And if you're just too busy chasing little tykes around the house to do anything other than just that, that's totally fine, too :)

Topical Tuesdays

From "Guilty Pleasure" television shows to what's going on in the world to viral baby sloth videos, there's always something to talk about. Tuesdays are the days we let out our favorite piece of gossip, new music, Olympic Games moment and anything else that comes to mind.

I WANT Wednesdays

Just because I love coupons doesn't mean I still don't lust after an amazing designer dress or Lady Gaga-esque shoes. I keenly watch the red carpet award shows for hair and makeup ideas and then scan the inter-tubes for tutorials, and sometimes I may stumble upon something like this little guy and can't help but share my desire to have him in my life! All these little things and more I'll feature in my I WANT Wednesday posts.

Thrifty Thursdays

Bringing it back down to reality, Thursdays are for all things thrifty. Whether it be an super amazing coupon, a tip from extreme couponers themselves, or a way to organize your fridge so you don't waste as much food, saving money is my absolute favorite topic of all.

Free-for-all Fridays

I'll save all the randomness, funny stories, weekend plans and more goodies for Friday - when my creative juices have just about dried up. Hopefully I'll come up with something good!

Wish me luck!

Eat Your Vegetables!

According to the government's latest nutritional guidelines, half of what your child eats should be fruits and vegetables. Nope, not hot dogs, not chicken nuggets, not pizza, but the stuff that comes out of the ground that almost every child detests. I wish I Parentingcould say that my kids beg me for more peas and broccoli, but I have a couple of children who only perk up to the sound of ice cream and tater tots. To be fair, so do I.

The difference is that I'm the adult, which make me responsible for making sure my family is healthy. In the past, I used to try everything to get my kids to finish their veggies from bribery to trickery to all out war and nothing seemed to work. It was frustrating and I knew something had to change. Then, I stumbled upon a book that put it all into perspective. The book is called French Kids Eat Everything and it offered a series of rules that made parenting your kids to eat well so obvious!

Taking a cue from the French, here are 10 rules every parent should follow. I know, the French think they're so smart, but this time, they really are right!

  1. Parents: YOU are in charge of food education
  2. Avoid emotional eating -- no food rewards, bribes, etc. (this is a tough one!)
  3. The kids eat whatever the adults eat -- no short-order cooking
  4. Eat family meals together
  5. Eat your veggies -- no excuses
  6. You don't have to LIKE it but you do have to TRY it. Say this at every meal.
  7. No snacking. It's ok to feel hungry between meals.
  8. Slow food is happy food. In other words, eat slow!
  9. Eat mostly real food
  10. Remember, eating is joyful
It sounds so simple, but I know enforcing these rules at dinner time is not an easy job. But who ever said parenting was easy to begin with! And when the going gets really tough, look to rule number 10 for help, because the occasional meal where the kids can order whatever they want is a nice little break, and not the end of the world either ;)
