Chocolate for Breakfast?

Confession: On very special occasions, like after my birthday, I wake up the next morning and eat a slice of chocolate cake for breakfast. I always feel immediately guilty afterward, but lately I've begun to think, why all the guilt? The Europeans have been incorporating chocolate into tBacon Dates brunchheir breakfasts for years. Nutella over bread or with fruit is a perfect example, and yet, you hardly ever see chocolate served in this country outside of desserts. Why is it Americans can't seem to fully embrace the idea of chocolate for breakfast?

Well, it seems Philadelphia cream cheese has the same question, only they're doing something about it! Introducing, Indulgence Cream Spread (emphasis on the "indulgence") -- a creamy spread that combines America's favorite breakfast spread, cream cheese, with chocolate for a decadent way to enjoy breakfast.

If you're a traditionalist and just can't get behind the idea of sugary eats in the morning, then just add bacon! I mean, if we're going to be talking about chocolate for breakfast, we might as well go all out, right? This delicious recipe calls for dates stuffed with Philadelphia Indulgence Cream Spread and wrapped in, you guessed it, bacon! Make these tasty bites for your mom on Mother's Day... or on any day, for that matter.

Here's What You'll Need:

Here's What to Do:
  1. Preheat broiler or grill
  2. Cut strips of bacon in half
  3. Pit dates if necessary; slit open one side with small knife and remove seed
  4. Fill date with cream cheese spread; approximately 1/2 tsp per date
  5. Wrap one piece of bacon around each date; adhering with toothpick
  6. Broil or grill on high until bacon is crisp, approximately 1 minute per side
  7. Serve immediately
If you don't have time to prepare these decadent treats on Mother's Day, just swing by the grocery store on your way to Mom's and grab a tub of Philadelphia Indulgence Spread. Enjoy it on breads, fruit, pretzels or, as I would suggest, simply with a spoon!

So, go ahead and indulge!

Butter, Sugar and Strawberries

Move over, Mom! I'm taking over the kitchen for a day. With Mother's Day less than two weeks away, it's time to give my mom a break and treat her to a little home cooking of my own. It's the least I can do after the countless meals she prepared for me while I was growing up -- and still does from time to time!

Mother's Day RecipeTo start, I found this incredibly easy recipe from Real Simple. It's called Butter, Sugar and Strawberries, and, yes, it's exactly how it sounds. I love this recipe because it's a yummy spin on the expected bread and jelly, plus it's really hard to mess up -- perfect for a person who didn't inherit the cooking gene from mom.

All you need are the following ingredients:

Slice the strawberries. Place them in a bowl and sprinkle 1/3 cup of sugar. Slice bread in half, then butter both sides and sprinkle with the remaining sugar. Place the bread on a serving plate and spoon the berries on top.

Scones and muffins are other popular choices to get the Mother's Day brunch off to a good start, but I'd go with this recipe if you think your mom will like something a little off the eaten path. Follow this appetizer with your mom's favorite breakfast entrees, like bacon, quiche and roasted potatoes, and don't forget the flowers for a lovely Mom's Day centerpiece!
